#MySexySaturday - My Sexy Love

Image
So tomorrow I have a new book coming out called Cosmo (Demon Elite #3) which just so happens to fit perfectly with this weeks theme. Both Main Characters are very sexy indeed and both have had mad crushes on the other for a long time. They used to work together for a secret government agency and couldn't do anything about their attraction. Things have changed now that Cosmo's team are independent contractors, though.

Cosmo knew breaking and entering Derek’s house was probably not the way to win the man’s affection. Cosmo Ruckman is very good at breaking and entering. He’s had years of practice, starting from the time he was a child. Despite his criminal past, he manages to earn a spot on the Demon Elite team. Cosmo has had a mad crush on Derek Kyle from the first moment he met him. Since Derek never gave him the time of day, moving on was easy when Demon Elite left the agency. Cosmo hasn’t thought about Derek in months. Now, he’s assigned the task of breaking into the man’s hous…

When his bookworm of a brother leaves to chase waterfalls, Jimini must follow even though he knows it will probably mean his death. When the first person he meets on the outside pulls a gun on him, he’s proven right. No one who calls himself a slaver and has a gun has Jimini’s safety in mind, even if he is sexy. Cosmo pulled open the door as far as the chain would allow. “Look, I’ll share whatever information I manage to get.”
“Let me in.” Derek looked nervous. Not that Cosmo worked with Derek a lot, and he certainly didn’t know him all that well, but he had never seen the man look this way before.
“No.”
“I’m sure they’re tailing me, now let me in before I get shot,” Derek said and Cosmo could see the muscles at his jaw jump around. “You’re probably going to have to move hotels now, by the way.” Cosmo sighed and shut the door just enough to take the chain off the door. He let Derek in his room. Cosmo bent down and started picking up his clothing that lay all over. He threw away a cup and a protein bar wrapper. He supposed the self-conscious way he was picking up the pigsty his room had become was rather telling. Honestly, the only reason he didn’t want Derek…

A Book to Inspire

Image
So this week Bronwyn and I thought we'd tell a bit about the books we read as children.
What did I read as a child that inspires me now?
When I was thirteen years old I picked up Different Seasons by Stephen King. It was an anthology that had four stories in it. I read all of them, but one in particular as always stuck with me. The Body is a story about four boys that go look for a dead kid in the woods. The movie Stand by Me was based off this book.
The reason why it inspires me now is because it's a very plot-driven story. As a writer of genre fiction creating an interesting story that someone can escape into often involves making sure the plot moves forward and keeps the reading wanting more of the story. This was something that story did well and something I aspire too every time I sit down to write.

All Jaron McAllister wanted to do was get out of the small town where he grew up. After being bullied all his life for being gay, that’s exactly what he does. He loses all contact with everyone in the town of Pickleville, including his emotionally distant mother and the only true friend he ever had.
When his best friend and mother of the child they share, get murdered he knows he must ask for help in the one place he thought he would never go back to. Coming back home isn’t easy and finding himself attracted to the town man-slut spells disaster. Travis Heath isn’t at all what his reputation suggests though

It was 2 hours later and he was still upstairs, not even close to done. At least it wasn’t difficult work, just basic cleaning anyone would do in their own house. His biggest problem consisted of not knowing if he should go in a door that was closed, which was why he was standing outside a closed door staring at the handle. He decided to knock. “Hello. Mind if I come in?…

“Cosmo Ruckman. I already know it’s you, so just come into my office.” With that, Derek turned around and went into his office once again. “Just so you know, I have some idea of what’s going on. The fact that the entire Demon Elite team pulled out of here was a giveaway that something wasn’t right.”

I'm paying attention, Grandpa

Image
My grandparents came over often when my kids were toddlers. This was when my grandfather could still drive, which seemed like a long time ago, but really wasn't. When his health slipped downward, I suppose he fell quickly even if it didn't feel like it the last couple years. Anyway, on this one occasion, my grandpa said to me, "Pay attention. They grow up fast." He was holding my son at the time. Now he's gone, just six months actually, and I forgot to tell him he was right. Although, I'm sure he knows it.

I took those words to heart and am enjoying every single moment with my kids. Now, the problem I'm having is realizing they aren't getting any younger. None of us are, but when you're a parent of a sixteen and seventeen-year-old, this is a bit more apparent than at other time in your life. The other time this is noticed, is when someone you love dies. Maybe that sounds morbid, but it's true. I probably feel time moving forward at a faster rat…

Research - The When? How? and Why? of things.

Image
So this week Bronwyn and I thought we'd tell a bit about when, how, and why we research. Research is an important part of the next BonyDee Challenge we have coming up because it deals with Celtic Mythology in relation to the changing seasons. Because I don't know about Mythology at all really, I'll need to do quite a bit of research before starting on my story.
When you're finished reading my article go visit Bronwyn Heeley's blog and see what she has to say about how she tackles research. http://bronwynheeley.blogspot.com/

When? How? Why?
First, I should say that I have a background in history so research isn't unfamiliar to me. In fact, I've done quite a bit of historical research. I've researched a particular artifact for the museum I've worked in, finding the history of it  and also researched the history of the small towns in my little area of the world. My point is that I enjoy the researching process quite a bit so this challenge is great fun…

Snippet “The Demon Elite tattoo is on your side right? I thought I saw it the other day.”
Cosmo looked at him again. “Yeah. Everyone on the team has one. Why?”
This time it was Derek’s turn to shrug. “Can I see it again?”
Cosmo got off the bed and took a couple steps to Derek. He lifted his shirt up and turned to the side, showing Derek the tattoo that each person on the Demon Elite team had somewhere. It was of a black demon with wings and had their team name underneath. Cosmo’s tattoo was big, covering the entire right side from just a few inches under his armpit to right above his waist. Derek reached out his hand and ran a finger over one of the demon’s wings. Cosmo instinctively moved away when the soft touch started to tickle slightly. He put his shirt do…

I'm Different

I remember the exact second that I finally acknowledge I was different, at least to myself. I was fifteen years old and in homeroom during my ninth grade high school year.
I started a new school that year, in a new town almost an hour’s drive away from my hometown. My parents had been divorced for almost ten years up to that point and my mom remarried, so we moved. Before that, I went to a religious school that had fifty children in it and that was in all grades up to eighth grade. We lived right next-door to my grandparents. Next to them, lived my uncle and aunt. We had a farm and I was never alone, especially with the animals around. I saw my dad every weekend. He was just a phone call away and would always come if my sisters and I asked him too. My childhood wasn’t perfect, but it was still okay. Better than some. I was loved. Like really loved and I knew it.
But before that moment in homeroom I brushed my own feelings aside, not sure how to deal with them. Even before puberty se…

BonyDee Challenge - Celtic Mythology Research

Image
So this week's post will feature a little bit of the research I've done so far. The idea is to give you a bit of a taste of what's to come October 31st, when the first book comes out. Plus, this teases Bronwyn Heeley just enough to make it fun for me. Please be sure to check out Bronwyn's blog to find out which direction her research is going. http://bronwynheeley.blogspot.com/

A Pooka is a shape changing Faery from the other world. He comes mostly at night and can take any shape, although he prefers the shape of a horse or a bear. Samhain is the time of year that it is easiest for them to come from the other world to our world as that's when the gate is the thinnest. At harvest time they are said to defecate in the fields and that's what kills all of the crops. Many farmers don't see this as a bad thing because they have harvested all that they can by October 31st anyway and the dead plants help the spring growth. They see it as the cycle moving around fr…

Grandma Margaret's Potato Salad Recipe

Image
So last week I promised to put up my Grandmother's potato Salad Recipe. Just to let you know, my grandmother doesn't measure anything so the amounts are my guesstimation.

4 - 5 Large potatoes, chopped into small cubes
2 Eggs
1 Small sweet onion, chopped
1/2 Cup Chopped Dill Pickles.
1/3 Cup mustard
1 Cup of Mayo or Salad Dressing, whichever you prefer
Salt and Pepper to taste

Boil potatoes and eggs for 20 minutes. Mix all other ingredients together in a large bowl. Peel and cut up eggs. Add eggs and potatoes to bowl. Gently mix.

#MySexySaturday - Bring It Home for Sexy

Image
This week's snippet comes from Whispers of Home. Jaron comes back to his home town after being away for several years. One of the first jobs he gets is a housekeeper for the Heath family, for which the other main character, Travis Heath, belongs. This scene is a bit awkward for Jaron and you'll see why.

All Jaron McAllister wanted to do was get out of the small town where he grew up. After being bullied all his life for being gay, that’s exactly what he does. He loses all contact with everyone in the town of Pickleville, including his emotionally distant mother and the only true friend he ever had.

BonyDee Challenge - My Thoughts

Image
First of all, I'd like to explain what I mean by challenge, as usually that isn't a word associate with writing at all and this is the blog of a writer. Bronwyn Heeley and I are both authors who have very different writing styles. We are so different, in fact, that there is absolutely no hope of every writing a book together. The first BonyDee Challenge, The Way Life Turns, wasn't intended to be a challenge at all. We were supposed to write a story together, but we're just so very different we decided to turn it into something else entirely. Our differences are something we both like about each other though (I'm a big fan of her books). So instead of saying "We Can't" we said "Let's both write from a similar theme and see what we come up with". It's a way for us to celebrate each other's writing styles and have fun with our own process at the same time.

Check out Bronwyn's friday post and get her thoughts here: http://bronwyn…
